artShots Exposed
The Goal: to celebrate photography as an art form
In its 5th year this juried print exhibition of photography has been designed to bring awareness to the public of photography as an art form, and to recognize the talents of BC photographers; amateur, professional, student, young and old.
The 3 categories (Colour, Monochrome, Creative) allow for a wide range of subjects and ever year has seen a great number of exceptional photographs win top awards.
The awards range from ribbons to medals, as well as monetary prizes. The top 40 prints are displayed at the Tsawwassen Arts Centre for the month of November and the 13 award winners are then shown at the Delta Municipal Hall for December 2010, January and February 2011.
Criteria for Entry and Judging
In order for the photographs to be considered an art form, the photographs entered should be beyond record shot; they should be technically excellent, have an impact and a superior sense of design.
The Delta Arts Council selects 3 independent jurors from the photographic industry in BC:
1) Photographic Artist
2) Professional Photographer
3) CAPA Certified/ Camera Club Member
The basis of selection will be sensitive to diversity of the photographs submitted, recognizing that people make photographs for different reasons and from different experiences. The jurors will be looking for evidence of excellence in photographic and artistic techniques, creative exploration of the subject, and with a view to photographs beyond record shot.
In order to maximize exposure for artShots workshops, seminars and entertaining digital shows have been combined into the month of November. These events will enable the public and photographers to view the exhibit.
